Cardiac motion tracking using CINE harmonic phase (HARP) magnetic resonance imaging.

چکیده
This article introduces a new image processing technique for rapid analysis of tagged cardiac magnetic resonance image sequences. The method uses isolated spectral peaks in SPAMM-tagged magnetic resonance images, which contain information about cardiac motion. The inverse Fourier transform of a spectral peak is a complex image whose calculated angle is called a harmonic phase (HARP) image. It is shown how two HARP image sequences can be used to automatically and accurately track material points through time. A rapid, semiautomated procedure to calculate circumferential and radial Lagrangian strain from tracked points is described. This new computational approach permits rapid analysis and visualization of myocardial strain within 5-10 min after the scan is complete. Its performance is demonstrated on MR image sequences reflecting both normal and abnormal cardiac motion. Results from the new method are shown to compare very well with a previously validated tracking algorithm. Magn Reson Med 42:1048-1060, 1999.

Feature tracking strain is similar to harmonic phase cardiac magnetic resonance in Fontan patients: a validation study
Background Feature tracking strain (FTS) is a new technique to evaluate myocardial deformation from routinely acquired cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) cine images, however, it has not been validated in single ventricle patients. The purpose of this study is to validate FTS against myocardial tagged harmonic phase (HARP) images, considered the reference standard in non-invasive deformation anal...
متن کاملTissue-point motion tracking in the tongue from cine MRI and tagged MRI.
PURPOSE Accurate tissue motion tracking within the tongue can help professionals diagnose and treat vocal tract-related disorders, evaluate speech quality before and after surgery, and conduct various scientific studies. The authors compared tissue tracking results from 4 widely used deformable registration (DR) methods applied to cine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with harmonic phase (HARP)...
متن کاملReal-time imaging of two-dimensional cardiac strain using a harmonic phase magnetic resonance imaging (HARP-MRI) pulse sequence.
The harmonic phase (HARP) method provides automatic and rapid analysis of tagged magnetic resonance (MR) images for quantification and visualization of myocardial strain. In this article, the development and implementation of a pulse sequence that acquires HARP images in real time are described. In this pulse sequence, a CINE sequence of images with 1-1 spatial modulation of magnetization (SPAM...
متن کاملComparison of feature tracking with harmonic phase imaging analysis for the assessment of diastolic dysfunction
Background Diastolic dysfunction (DD) is common in patients with cardiovascular disease. Current cardiac magnetic resonance techniques for assessment of DD require the acquisition of tagged imaging sequences, and complex post-processing. A new post-processing software allows for rapid strain assessment using feature tracking analysis (FT) (TomTec, Diogenes Software, Germany) based on convention...
متن کاملCardiac motion estimation using multi-scale feature points
Heart illnesses influence the functioning of the cardiac muscle and are the major causes of death in the world. Optic flow methods are essential tools to assess and quantify the contraction of the cardiac walls, but are hampered by the aperture problem. Harmonic phase (HARP) techniques measure the phase in magnetic resonance (MR) tagged images. Due to the regular geometry, patterns generated by...
